Duncan Baker Double Marathon – Funds received for Choral Society

Supported by Norfolk Community Foundation through Duncan Baker

Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society are delighted to confirm that we are recipients of a donation of £622.70 which has been made through Norfolk Community Foundation

These funds were raised by Duncan Baker as a result of his marathon runs where he donated Mile 32 of the North Norfolk Marathon to the Choral Society.

What did it involve?

One week, two marathons. Running 52 miles for 52 local charities. This is not going to be easy!

And the great news is that, once again, Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society has made it to the list of supported charities – Duncan has dedicated Mile 32 in the North Norfolk Marathon to Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society. Pam Thompson, Chair of the Society, says “Let’s pray that he has enough stamina to run the second marathon!”

Duncan Baker says: “Physically, this is going to be the hardest challenge I’ve undertaken to date – running two full marathons, 52 miles, just 7 days apart will certainly be tough. I had a year off from running in 2023, under strict instructions from my doctor following my eye surgery – but now, fully healed, I’m already training to conquer this huge challenge.

What will get me through each and every step is knowing that the money is going to fund amazing small charities that undertake vital work across the constituency. It’s my way of trying to support the brilliant men and women who do so much for the people I represent.

My goal is clear – to break the £100,000 mark for local North Norfolk charities, which will be the accumulation of money raised since my first marathon in 2021.

Both times I’ve done this in the past, I’ve been absolutely blown away by the generosity of the people of North Norfolk – it’s heartening to see. To even be in a position to try and break £100,000 is an incredible thing, thank you so much to all who support me in my charity work.

The money will be shared equally between all the lucky nominated charities. ”

What was the Result?

He did it and achieved his target by completing the second marathon in under 5 hours and raising over £100,000
